This client was having no luck finding anyone to replace her deteriorating patio. With very little access to allow a digger to get down the side of the house, and such a steep front garden, no one wanted the task of working on this project. So we designed a split level deck to cover the existing patio. The top deck was very narrow with the central steps limiting usable living space on both the top and lower patio. I moved the steps to one side so the two areas worked better. Top deck was layered using Trex transcend gravel path decking with Trex transcend island mist picture frame . We provided fortitude railings along the front and down the steps.
We changed the direction of the deck timbers on the lower deck, so it looked different to the higher deck. We then incorporated an inlay of a descending square in the centre as a focal point between the centre of the curved front steps, which lead to the lower garden. We also created a decking wall between levels with a live green wall, to add foliage and colour .
This deck won silver best large Trex deck and bronze best trex design solution at the 2021 Arbourdeck awards.
